May have never gotten her letter to Hogwarts, but there's plenty of magic happening in her life. The 28-year-old comedian has been pretty much everywhere these days. Of course, many people know her as the former The Daily Show correspondent who like no other. But since leaving the show, she's been busy with a slew of other projects.

There's her intersectional podcast which she co-hosts with Phoebe Robinson. And earlier this year she starred in Netflix's romantic comedy, which proved once more that Jessica is a comedic force to be reckoned with. She's even become and soon enough she'll be apparating onto the big-screen next fall in. One of comedy's biggest names joining one of the most-revered magical franchises ever? You could say we're under Jessica's spell. But Teen Vogue got a chance to chat with Jessica about some of the other projects she's been involved in, including getting to visit headquarters after they found out what a big fan she is of the game.

We talked about joining the wizarding world of Fantastic Beasts, grooming a Sims crime lord to become a member of the undead, and more. Teen Vogue: So there was news that you’ll be in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. What was your reaction to joining the project and what was the audition process like? Jessica Williams:: My journey to joining the sequel was wild.

I had met up with JK Rowling months and months ago, and she ended up reaching out to me, being like, 'I'm working on this really awesome character that I think you'd be great for.' Then, once it got around to the studio and the producers and the director, then they were onboard. Finally, when I got the confirmation, I was just crying and screaming. A lot of crying because I started reading those books when I was in the fourth grade, and I was introverted, and I really, really loved those books.

I never would've thought when I was a kid reading those books that I would one day, at 28, grow up to play this awesome, awesome part for this awesome character that exists in this universe. TV:What can you tell me about your character?

Hogwarts

Will she have magic? JW: I cannot reveal anything at all. I cannot reveal anything at all. TV: Out of the characters from the original 'Harry Potter' books, who would you love to play and why?

JW: Oh, Hermione or McGonagall, just because Hermione was the truth, Hermione is the truth, and the boys wouldn't really be anywhere without her. She's just smart and talented, and there's just something to a woman relying on her wits that I just really, really love, and just being so smart that I love.

Professor McGonagall just because she always had the kids' backs. And she could be stern and tough if she needed to be, because that was her job, which I respected. But, what I love, she was also just a badass Quidditch player.

You know, her backstory is amazing. It never really made it into the books or the movies, but it. She's just great. I just really love her. There's that moment in the beginning where Harry Potter is goofing around with Malfoy, and McGonagall's on the broomstick, and McGonagall catches him, and she's like, 'Come with me right now.' You think that Harry's gonna get in trouble, but really she's taking him to Oliver Wood, the captain of the Quidditch team, to be like, 'This is your new seeker,' which is dope.

She had the fear of God, but also Gryffindor was her house, so she was still willing to let things slide and have fun, and I think she's amazing. TV: And Maggie Smith was just so iconic in the movies. Especially in the final one. JW: Oh my gosh, yes. Professor McGonagall is so interesting in those last two books.

It's just crazy to see, but it's also good to see that she was still at the school. Queen Maggie is just a queen indeed. She's just a force.

She made that role. TV: You’ve been doing some really fun stuff with The Sims, especially since the new Cats and Dogs expansion pack just came out and is going to be on Xbox and PlayStation soon. Could you tell me a bit about your work with those games? JW: I think to promote The Incredible Jessica James, there were quite a few interviews where I was talking about how much I love The Sims, and I think EA sort of got wind of it, so they were like, 'Do you wanna come visit our headquarters in Redwood City?' I was like, 'Hell yeah,' and then I could bring my best friend, which was really fun, who was also obsessed with The Sims.

So, I got to go over there and tour the headquarters. They made me a custom Sim, which was incredible. I got to meet so many of the brilliant, amazing people who work there, and I had a blast. It was really great just because I started playing The Sims, you know, back at the original Sims. I started playing then, and I really just grew with it as the different versions of the game came out, so it really did feel like a pilgrimage to finally be able to go to the headquarters and see how it's made.

I was really naively surprised and impressed with how. I really realized that every single thing that makes it into the game is a concept or an idea that they had to put up on a mood board, and then they send it to a designer, then they test it in the environment.

It's just so much work that goes into it, and so I was really excited to be able to go visit them. TV: How has being a longtime lover of The Sims influenced your comedy? JW: When I do my live shows, I do talk about The Sims quite a bit. I think it relaxes me, and I have fun doing it, and it's a hobby of mine that I have, so I think it overall makes me more rounded as an individual. It sort of really relaxes me. Like, if I'm traveling somewhere by myself to go do a show, I've always got The Sims with me on my laptop.

I can either play it on the plane or I can go back to my apartment and watch, I don't know, House Hunters on hotel TV while I play The Sims, you know? It's really nice. TV: Everyone has funny stories about what they used to do with their Sims, whether it's trap them in a house or put them in interesting situations. What’s something that you used to put your Sims through? JW: I had one Sim who. She's the most fun Sim that I play with because she's very deviant and mischievous, and she's on the career track to being a crime lord, which is delightful to me, because I couldn't do that in my real life.

But, she's always just trying to get into mischief and get into trouble, and I decided to try and make her become a vampire. I guess the way to do that is you have to befriend them, and then convince them to turn you. So, she was befriending this Sim who was such a huge, huge snob, so he was difficult to get to know.

Then, one day they were hanging out outside in the park, and she was really, really close to becoming a vampire, asking him to turn her, and he completely caught on fire. And he died right there on the spot.

I was screaming. I was like, 'No, no, no, no, no.

What happened? What happened? What happened? Can I bring him back?

What's happening?' My Sim was in mourning for, like, four days.

It was a mess. TV: What’s the biggest thing you learned from your experience with The Incredible Jessica James? JW: I think the biggest lesson I got was that I could do it. Jessica James was really interesting because I was in every scene of that movie, so a part of me was worried about like, 'Ah, how am I gonna be in every scene?

What if I mess up my lines?' You know, I had lines on every page. It was like, 'Ugh.'

You look at a whole script and you're like, 'How am I gonna do this?' But, it was amazing to see that when I paced myself and I learned a little bit at a time. It all sort of came together. Then, it wasn't just me making the movie. There were so many awesome people working behind the camera.

We all sort of came together to make this whole piece. No matter what my anxieties were, it was nice to always know that, actually, we're all kinda working on this together. TV: What's something you wish your teen self knew? JW: My teen self? I wish that I'd have known when I was a teen that it was okay to be introverted. I'm a really introverted person.

I perform and do shows, but that's my job. I always felt like there was something wrong with me and that I needed to be more extroverted and always on.

For me, a lot of social situations can be quite draining, and it doesn't really fill up my emotional tank, if you will. I wish that when I was a teenager that I had honored that more, and I wish that I had respected that part of me that really needed to recharge by staying indoors and having alone time, maybe just sitting at home and playing The Sims. I wish that I would have honored that more. TV: What are some annoying questions you’re tired of getting? JW: I think just, 'Are women funny?' Also, 'Do you play basketball?' Because I am six foot tall.

I'm not obligated to play basketball just because I'm super tall. TV: Are there any upcoming projects you're particularly excited about? JW: There's a that I'm really excited about, so stay tuned for that. Related: Check this out.
